Family Connection Resources on
Abuse

The Abuse of Power, Poling (Book, Abingdon) This book, addressed primarily to educators, ministers, and therapists, is about power manifested in sexual violence toward women and children. It is also about the resilience of hope and new communities of healing.

Beyond the Darkness: Healing for Victims of Sexual Abuse, Kubetin/Mallory (Book, Rapha/Word) The authors help victims grieve appropriately, deal with the pain of sexual abuse, learn to let go of the past, and reclaim trust, control, and intimacy.

Bold Love, Allender (Book, NavPress) This book is about loving and forgiving those who may have harmed us the most. It is especially helpful for someone struggling to love and forgive an abuser.

Christian Men Who Hate Women, Rink (Zondervan) This is a book about the painful subject of hurtful relationships in Christian marriages, especially those in which Christian women love men who hate them.

Coping With Abuse in the Family, Monfalcone (Westminster) Misuse of others ranges from such subtle acts as ignoring or withdrawing to severe acts of neglect and violence. The author examines cases of abuse in the Bible, warns of the stresses that trigger abuse, and gives practical steps on how to help oneself and others.

The Power of a Parent's Words, Wright, (Book, Regal) A parent's words have the power to bruise a child on the inside. Wright shows how to recognize dysfunctional patterns and learn healthy means of communication that will build up a child.

A Safe Place: Beyond Sexual Abuse, Morrison (Book, Harold Shaw) This book helps the survivors/victims of sexual abuse discover what real love is, learn how to develop lasting friendships, and experience a new healthy view of love and sex as God intended.

Through the Tears: Caring for the Sexually Abused Child, Johnson (Book, Broadman) A book of comprehensive information and practical suggestions to help parents cope with the realities of living with a child who has been sexually abused.

Verbal Abuse, Ketterman (Book, Vine) More common than most realize, verbal abuse may come from a parent, spouse, or boss - even one's self. Ketterman helps the sufferer and offender learn to break destructive speech patterns, heal wounds, and achieve wholeness again.

The Wounded Heart, Alexander (Book, NavPress) This book shows how sexual abuse damages the souls of its victims and offers hope to those who are willing to face and work through the past.
